FIRE BLANKET, HOW DOES IT WORK?

Fire blankets are filled with woven fiberglass or wool and have been treated with a flame resistant chemical. The fire blanket will cover the small fire area, depriving the fire of air, its fuel source. The fire blanket also acts as a shield against radiated heat.

WHAT ARE FIRE BLANKETS USED FOR?

Fire blankets are used for combatting small class A, B & F fires, making it perfect for Kitchens ( 56% of residential fires start in the kitchen), and also burning clothes. Your garage, office and all types of vehicles can also benefit from having a fire blanket readily accessible.

Fire Blanket types and fire classes

FIRE BLANKETS SERVICE & MAINTENANCE

In a business environment, all fire blankets must be changed every five years. All fire blankets must carry a maintenance tag that shows their last inspection date, and must be serviced every 6 months. Once your fire blanket has been used it must be replaced.

At home, fire blankets can last up to 10 years but you need to check them regularly (we recommend twice a year to check the following: tamper seal is intact, no rips, and other signs of wear).

FIRE BLANKET DO NOT USE ON:

Fire blankets should not be used on fires involving combustible gases, such as LPG, Natural gas and acetylene, and also are not suitable for use on combustible metals such as aluminum shaving or magnesium, and electrical fires.
