FOAM, HOW DOES IT WORK?

Foam fire extinguishers work by forming a layer over the top of the burning substance which stops the fire by cutting off access to oxygen.

WHAT IS A FOAM EXTINGUISHER USED FOR?

Foam extinguishers were developed to fight Class A fires (flammable solids such as rubber, wood, paper and textile materials), and class B fires (flammable liquids such as kerosene or petrol). Foam fire extinguishers are generally used within warehouse’s, petrol stations and storage facilities.

Foam Fire extinguisher types and fire classes

From September 26th 2022, the EPA has restricted the use of firefighting foam in NSW containing PFAS, along with a restriction on suppliers selling portable fire extinguishers containing PFAS, unless supplying to an entity in NSW that holds a valid exemption.

FOAM EXTINGUISHER SERVICE & MAINTENANCE

In a business environment, all foam extinguishers must undergo hydrostatic testing and recharge every three years. All Foam fire extinguishers must carry a maintenance tag that shows their last inspection date, and must be serviced every 6 months. Once your extinguisher has been discharged, it must be pressure tested & recharged, or replaced.

FOAM EXTINGUISHER DO NOT USE ON:

Foam extinguishers should not be used on fires involving class C, D, E (risk of danger) and F fires.
